The Kenmore Free Store is an outreach ministry of Park United Methodist Church and Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, both located in the Kenmore neighborhood of Akron. Now in its eleventh year of operation, the store was started in response to the difficult circumstances in which many people live in the Kenmore community. The longevity of this ministry is the collaborative result of the efforts of the volunteer staff, our generous donors, and those individuals and organizations who support us financially. While we have served over 10,000 families and distributed hundreds of thousands of items through the store, we count the relationships we have established with and among our shoppers as a more meaningful outcome of our ministry. We pray with and for our shoppers and listen to their stories and concerns. For many, the Free Store is more than a place to get free clothing and other items of need. Our tagline is “Grace freely received, grace freely given.” We endeavor to extend to every shopper the grace that we ourselves have received. It is the mission of the Kenmore Free Store ministry to provide the good news of Jesus Christ and genuine Christian love and fellowship as well as clothing and other household necessities to all at no cost or obligation.
